Damascus: Syrian government
on Monday said Damascus is ready for dialogue with the armed opposition, including
armed rebels who have been seeking to topple the incumbent regime for almost
two years.
Foreign
Minister Walid al-Moallem said Monday in Moscow that Syria is open to dialogue
with those who want to take part to end the bloodshed in the country.
Walid’s statements
come following his meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, who in
the last week had said that there was no military solution to the Syria crisis and
ongoing spar between rebels and government forces will lead to nothing but “mutual
destruction”
Russia has also
invited the head of Syria's main opposition coalition, Moaz al-Khatib, to visit
Moscow for talks.
According to
United Nations estimates, some 70,000 people have died since the conflict began
in March 2011.
