World food program staff killed in Sudan

Khartoum: The United States has said a World Food Program employee was shot to death Saturday in the southern part of Sudan.

According to a obituary statement released on Sunday by WFP two unidentified gunmen opened fire on a U.N. car some 80 kilometres north of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state and killed the Sudanese driver.  
Another person in the car was wounded.

The Sudanese army has been fighting rebels from the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North in the area for more than a year.  

There are no figures for how many people have died in the fighting.
