London: The 29-year-old five-time world champion fought her way but settled for an Olympic bronze on Wednesday after losing her semifinal bout to Great Britain’s Nicola Adams.

Mary Kom says sorry after semi-final loss but said she was satisfied with her effort at the London Games.

“I am sorry, couldn’t win gold or silver. I know my fans prayed and wished for me. I tried my hardest. I am satisfied with my performance,” said Mary Kom shortly after losing in the 51kg class.

The mother of two from Manipur was completely out-boxed by the second-seeded Briton in all the four rounds (1-3, 1-2, 2-3, 2-3) to deny the Indian to enter the final of the event.

With this medal Mary Kom, became the second Indian boxer to win a medal after Vijender Singh.
Women's boxing made its Olympic debut in London.
