Geneva: International mediator Kofi Annan said that Iran should be the part of any solution to end conflict in Syria.
The above statement came during a press conference hosted by the Annan in Geneva on Friday. He was flanked by Major General Robert Mood, head of United Nations Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS).
“I have made it quite clear that I believe Iran should be part of the solution,” the joint UN-Arab League envoy told reporters.
Annan asserted that it is time for “countries of influence” to raise the level of pressure on the parties on the ground, and to persuade them that it is in their interest to stop the killing and start talking.
As per activists, more than 14,000 civilians have been killed since the upsurge against President Assad’s regime began in March, 2011.
