Islamabad: Pakistan on Thursday plunged into another political trouble as one of the candidates chosen to replace country’s ousted Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is facing an arrest warrant.
Earliear on Tuesday, the Supreme Court terminated the career of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani - disqualifying him from office on the basis of a contempt of court conviction linked to his refusal to reopen corruption cases against President Zardari.
As per media reports, soon after ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chose Makhdoom Shahabuddin as its candidate for prime ministership, a local court issued a non-baliable arrest warrant against him in connection with alleged irregularities in the import of a large amount of the controlled drug Ephedrine during his tenure as Health Minister.
The PPP and its allies have also put forward the names of former Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and Legislator Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
