Obama bids farewell to India with Hindi words

New Delhi: In an effort to strike a chord with the common man in India, US President Barack Obama on Tuesday delivered a well thought of speech at a townhall to focus on the Indo-US ties. 

'Bahut dhanyawad' and 'Jai Hind' were among few words spoken in Hindi by US President in his address. 

Obama, who has just concluded his India visit was addressing a huge gethering at the Siri Fort auditorium here in New Delhi on Tuesday. 

Mr. Obama surprised everybody when he quoted a famous line from Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster  ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenege (DDLJ)’. 

"Senorita, bade bade deshon mai... You know what I mean," he said in borken Hindi in his address. 
Obama drew a loud cheer from the audience following this famous dialogue from the movie.

"I bring the friendship and greetings of the American people. On behalf of myself and Michelle, thank you so much for welcoming us back to India, 'bahut dhanyawad'," Obama said in his opening remarks.

The US President picked Indian heroes like actor Shah Rukh Khan, sports icons Milkha Singh and Mary Kom, and Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi to make a point that courage and humanitarian values unify both the nations.

Obama, who spoke on various issues like religion, women empowerment and greater partnership between India and America, ended his remark by saying 'Jai Hind'.

Asserting that religious intolerance should be scrapped for the progress of the nations, he said, "India will succeed as long as it's not splintered along religious lines."

Soon after the conclusion of his remark, both Obama and Michelle went closer to the audience and shook hands with them amid loud clappings.

US National Security Council took twitter to thanks Narendra Modi for memorable visit and also hails Indian people for welcoming the US President.

Not only this, as US President Barack Obama reached India, the National Security Council tweeted the words JAI HIND! The twitter handle expressed happiness on the behalf of the US President Barack Obama and wrote Jai Hind as a part of the tweet. After a while the tweet was retweeted by the The White House twitter handle.

He also thanked India for the hospitality during the visit to the country.

He ended his speech by saying 'chale saath saath.
