New Delhi: In India, the father of the Delhi gang-rape victim publicly
announced his daughter's name on Sunday, so she could be an inspiration to
other victims of sexual assault.
Badri Singh Pandey, the victim’s father in an interview to British
publication “The Sunday People” revealed the name of his brave and courageous
daughter, Jyoti Singh Pandey.
In his interview Jyoti’s father said, his daughter didn't do
anything wrong and the revelation will give courage to other women, Indian
television reported.
The 23-year-old woman who was gang-raped Dec 16 in a moving
bus is being referred to by pseudonyms like 'Nirbhaya', 'Abhaya', 'Amaanat' and
'Damini'.
Indian law prohibits naming rape victims in order to protect
family privacy.
Quoting Badri, it said: “Death for all six accused. These men are beasts. They should be made an
example of and that society will not allow such things to happen”.
The Minister of State for Human Resources Development Shashi
Tharoor, has already urged authorities to name new anti-rape legislation after victim.
The victim died on December 28 in a Singapore hospital, two
weeks after being brutally beaten and raped on a bus in New Delhi.
The magazine recently interviewed him & his family in
their ancestral village in UP.
