[Breaking News] Protest against Assam riots turns violent, vehicles set ablaze

Mumbai: The ethnic violence spark of Assam has reached Mumbai, actually the protest that was staged at Azad Maidan (ground) by several Muslim organisations on Saturday to condemn the alleged attacks on Muslims in Myanmar and the riots in Assam turned violent on Saturday.

As the violence escalated protesters vandalised the BEST buses and set ablaze vehicle parked nearby. As per media reports, three news channel’s OB vans were also set on fire by the protesters.

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has appealed for peace in Mumbai.

"I will talk to the Maharashtra Chief Minister," Tarun Gogoi reportedly said following the incident.

As of now there was no report of any loss of life. Reportedly, police opened fire in the air and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob. Police said, situation is now under control. RAF has been deployed at the site.
