New Delhi: Ending all speculations, Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi on Friday afternoon declared country’s Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as the ruling coalition's presidential candidate.

The nomination of the 77-year-old Congress veteran from West Bengal was made at a high-level meeting of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chaired by Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress President made the announcement citing Mukherjee’s distinguished record of public service from past five decades.

The UPA also urged all political parties, including the NDA, as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to endorse Mukherjee's nomination to the top post.
